The Agricultural Dealers and Manufacturers Association in conjunction with Zimbabwe National Indigenous Breeders Society, are set to host the second indigenous livestock breeds sale. The sale is set to broaden its scope in 2025, marking a significant expansion from its initial format.

Following the success of its inaugural event, ADMA has expanded the sale's livestock offerings to include indigenous goats and sheep alongside an increased number of Zimbabwean Sanga (Nkone, Tuli and Mashona) cattle.

The evolution of this agricultural exhibition and market place reflects growing interest from both breeders and buyers in indigenous Zimbabwean breeds. While the first sale focused exclusively on Sanga cattle, the 2025 event will feature a more diverse selection of livestock, particularly highlighting locally-adapted small stock species.

Industry observers note that the inclusion of indigenous goats and sheep addresses a market need for smaller-scale farming operations and diversified livestock enterprises. These indigenous breeds, which have adapted to local conditions over generations, represent an important component of agricultural biodiversity in the region.

The expansion also serves as an indicator of the growing prominence of organised livestock sales in supporting agricultural trade and genetic diversity preservation efforts. By bringing together a wider range of livestock options under one event, ADMA is facilitating greater awareness and market access for both commercial and smallholder farmers.

Last year, the livestock sale emerged as a major attraction for show visitors, drawing crowds eager to witness the showcase of premium animals and trading activity. This interest contributed significantly to overall show attendance, with many visitors citing the livestock sale as a key factor in their decision to purchase entry tickets.

The expanded format for 2025, featuring a broader array of livestock, is expected to further boost visitor numbers and enhance the show's appeal to both agricultural professionals and the general public. The offloading ramp and the holding pen facilities are being revamped and expanded to accommodate the larger number of livestock.

The date for this year’s ADMA Agrishow is 5-7 June, once more happening at ART Farm, Pomona, with the sale on Saturday, June, 7.
